Summer Reading List 2014

I’ve recently gotten on a fiction kick as I tend to go back and forth.  Last year a majority of my reading was non-fiction, particularly Christian books and I’m pretty tired of it.  I’ve really found with Christian books (whether discipleship, spirituality, or ministry related) that they all start to blend together.  Full of cliches and platitudes, it’s just exhausting to read anymore.  So I’ve started a new pattern for reading that includes reading theology/ministry books at work (one chapter a day) and reading for pleasure at home.

Reading fiction lately has been so enjoyable and refreshing that I’m going to keep it rolling through the summer. Thanks to some friends recommendations, a few online book lists, and an enjoyable book by Cornelius Plantinga I’ve put together a list of what I’m going to read over the next few summer months.  There are a few non-fiction titles here, a memoir-esque selection, and a biography, but all in all it’s a good change from the usual.

A River Runs Through It – Normal Maclean
Enrique’s Journey – Sonia Nazario
A Confederacy of Dunces – John Kennedy Toole
Thin Blue Smoke – Doug Worgul
Salt, Sugar, Fat – Michael Moss
Redwall – Brian Jacques
Never Let Me Go – Kazuo Ishiguro
Strange Glory; A Life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer – Charles Marsh
The Dead Zone – Stephen King
Dakota; a Spiritual Geography – Kathleen Norris
The Little Way of Ruthie Leming – Rod Dreher
Purple Hibiscus – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
The Short Sweet Dream of Eduardo Gutierrez – Jimmy Breslin

  1. Howdy would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using?
I’m looking to start my own blog soon but I’m having
a tough time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and
I’m looking for something unique. P.S My apologies for
getting off-topic but I had to ask!
